Ribbon Shamrocks... woven with possibilities!

For the last few years, one of our traditions has been to make these ribbon shamrocks
They are so simple and cheap to make!

My girls love them for the hair....

I think they're fun for a mantle.

They'd look cute on a wreath, a headband, or just hanging by themselves.

Since emerald is the color of the year (read about it HERE), these shamrocks will not only help you avoid getting pinched, but you'll be sporting the "in" color :).

I did not invent these, obviously! I don't even remember where I learned how to make them, but this is my version.

To find out how to make your own, click on "read more" below...

but first,

Supplies:
Green ribbon (grosgrain works best)
Glue gun & glue sticks

First: cut 6 equal pieces of ribbon, and one a little shorter for the stem.
(For mantle shamrocks, cut 4 1/4"; for hair shamrocks, cut 2 1/2" or 3")

Then seal the ends with heat so they don't fray. Either light a candle and sear the ends, or use a lighter.

Then....

Make sure to hot glue it now!!!!

That's it!!

For the banner on the mantle, I cut Popsicle sticks in half then glued a piece of ribbon to them.  I glued the shamrock on top of that. Then I taped twine to the Popsicle stick and taped it to my mantle.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

  14. Hi love the shamrocks! I would like to make with my grandnieces tomorrow, ages 6 - 13. I just tried to make one with fabric glue, I am concerned with using glue guns with such young kids. Have you seen one that is just one continuous piece of ribbon?

    1. I just saw your comment, and I'm so sorry it's after you've made them!!! I haven't seen one like that. What I would do, is use liquid stitch or even tacky glue if you're worried about the glue gun. I definitely do not let my kids touch glue guns!!

  17. That's creative and easy to do. I think it looks really nice when used to decorate the house. The bright green color really livens up the place. It's cool that it can be used in other creative projects as well. Shamrock images have always been popular.
